3-vehicle crash shuts down I-75 for 90 minutes

On Behalf of | May 25, 2017 | Truck Accidents |

Lexington Police reported that a multiple vehicle collision that occurred earlier this week in the southbound lanes of Interstate 75 turned the expanse of highway into essentially a parking lot for about 90 minutes.

The accident on Tuesday, May 23 involved three vehicles in Fayette County, close to Mile Marker 107. Preliminary reports from investigating officers indicate that the accident was caused by a tractor-trailer smashing into a pickup truck. The impact caused the pickup truck to strike a car.

Police blocked off an exit to southbound lanes from Man O War Boulevard, as first responders had to assess drivers’ and passengers’ conditions while clean-up crews towed off the wreckage from the accident. An occupant in the pickup truck was transported to a local hospital with injuries police reported as minor.

By 9:40 p.m., both the north- and southbound lanes of Interstate 75 were opened again, allowing stranded motorists to slowly move on their way, police said.

Any time a large commercial truck is involved in an accident with a smaller vehicle, it is quite likely that the driver and occupants of the other vehicle(s) will suffer injuries and extensive property damage. If the truck was moving at a high rate of speed when the collision occurred, those in the passenger vehicles are at risk of being maimed or even killed.

While it appears from what has been reported that those involved were lucky not to suffer serious injuries, not all physical damages are immediately apparent, That’s why it’s vital to seek medical treatment following an accident caused by an at-fault truck driver. You may be able to receive financial compensation for your injuries and other damages.
