Injuries from a motorcycle crash are important, too

On Behalf of | Sep 10, 2017 | Car Accidents |

As a motorcycle rider, you have rights just like anyone else who drives on our roads and highways. You are entitled to compensation if you become injured in an accident, but the insurance company to which you submit a claim may not see things that way.

The injuries you sustain from a car-motorcycle crash may be significant, even life-changing. They are certainly as important as any suffered by the driver of the vehicle that hit you. This is a good time to reach out to an advocate who will stand up for your rights and deal effectively with the powerful legal teams retained by big insurance companies.

More motorcycles, more crashes

According to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration report, there were 8.6 million motorcycles on the nation’s roadways in 2015, and 88,000 bikers suffered injuries. The report went on to state that in 2015, motorcycle riders were five times more likely than vehicle occupants to become injured in an accident.

Taking advantage

It is not uncommon for an insurance company to attempt placing the blame for an accident on the motorcyclist. While it is true that the biker is usually the most vulnerable party in a crash, it does not necessarily follow that he or she was at fault.

Because motorcycles offer less protection than a car, injuries suffered by bikers often involve broken bones and various head and chest injuries, especially if the bikers are older. However, insurance companies see the dollar signs involved with medical expenses, pain and suffering, possible lost wages and more, and are not anxious to settle with an injured motorcycle rider.

A mixed bag

While older bikers often suffer injuries that are more severe, younger riders are involved in far more accidents, all of which keeps insurance companies busy. The bottom line is that no matter how old or young you are, remember that you have rights as a motorcycle rider that entitle you to full and fair compensation for your injuries.
