Our Attorneys Will Work To Protect Your Driving Privileges

A conviction for driving under the influence (DUI) in Kentucky will likely result in a suspended driver’s license. This may make life extremely difficult if you rely on your vehicle to get to work. A large fine and jail time are also possible. But DUI law is an area where a skilled attorney may be able to defeat the charges and minimize the penalties.

In the Commonwealth of Kentucky, DUI penalties include suspension of driver’s license, fines, potential jail time, mandatory alcohol and substance abuse counseling, and community service. Our experienced lawyers can explain more based on the specifics of your situation. For each subsequent DUI conviction, the amount and duration of each of the above penalties increases.

First Offense Penalties:

  • Driver’s license suspended for a term of 30 to 120 days
  • A fine in the amount of $200 to $500
  • Two to 30 days in jail (with up to four additional days if there are aggravating conditions)
  • 90 days in an alcohol or substance abuse program
  • 48 hours to 30 days of community service labor

Second Offense Penalties:

  • Driver’s license suspended for a term of 12 to 18 months
  • A fine in the amount of $350 to $500
  • Seven days to six months in jail (with up to 14 extra days if there are aggravating conditions)
  • One year in an alcohol or substance abuse program
  • 10 days to six months of community service labor

Third Offense Penalties:

  • Driver’s license suspended for a term of 24 to 36 months
  • A fine in the amount of $500 to $1,000
  • 30 days to 12 months in jail (with up to 60 extra days if there are aggravating conditions)
  • One year in an alcohol or substance abuse program
